The rules in short
| Minimum purchase | ₩15,000 per receipt |
| Instant refund at the store | Each receipt under ₩1,000,000 |
| Instant refund trip limit | Total under ₩5,000,000 |
| Refund amount | About 6–8% of the price |
Prices in Korea include 10% VAT. Refund operators deduct a handling fee and each operator uses its own refund table, so you usually get back about 6–8% of the price, not the full 10%. Receipts that don’t qualify for an instant refund can still be refunded at the airport or a refund counter before you leave.
How to claim
- Shop at stores showing a Tax Free / Tax Refund sign and show your passport when paying.
- Instant refund: the refund is taken off the price at the counter (within the limits above).
- Otherwise: keep the refund receipt and claim it at a refund kiosk or counter at the airport before check-in. Keep the goods unused — customs may ask to see them.
